The 5th (2025) “Masahiko Aoki Award in Comparative Institutional Economics” Call for Papers

THEME

We seek to identify significant economic studies on comparative institutional analysis, whether theoretical or empirical, with implications for China’s reform and development.

QUALIFICATION

Young scholars under the age of 40 (inclusive) are eligible to apply.

REQUIREMENTS OF PAPERS NOMINATION

1.     Research papers that have undergone anonymous peer review (proof required), or journal articles published within the last two years (from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024), are eligible for award nomination.

2.     Both Chinese and English papers are welcome. Chinese papers must include a detailed English abstract (up to 1000 words), covering the background, research question, methodology, main findings, and contributions.

PROCESS OF NOMINATION AND SELECTION

1. Submission deadline: The deadline to submit the full paper is July 15, 2025.

2. Initial review: 

The organizing committee will organize experts for preliminary selection, announce the results, and grant award nominations (5-7 papers) by October 1, 2025.

3. Final review: The review committee will assess the shortlisted papers for 1 or 2 winners, with the results announced by November 30, 2025.

AWARDS

1-2 of the best paper selected from the “Award Nomination” papers by the review committee will be granted the “Masahiko Aoki Award in Comparative Institutional Economic”.

The award winner will:

1. Be invited to attend the CIDEG annual meeting and engage in face-to-face communication with world-leading economists.

2. Be invited to attend the CIDEG academic meetings and have the opportunity to apply CIDEG research projects.

3. Receive a reward of RMB 50,000.
