Global Governance Future Beijing Conference is Held at TsinghuaRelease time: 2016-09-29

    The Global Governance Future (GGF) 2027 Beijing Conference was held on September 22-24 at SPPM, Tsinghua University. The conference assembles young professionals from both developed and developing countries, is aimed at foreseeing the development situation before the year 2027 and provides solutions to crucial global challenges. From the US, India, Germany and Japan and China, 25 fellows and young leaders of this program are undertaking various and diverse careers including young faculties, government functionaries, international organization officers of UNDP and WHO, and journalists of BBC, etc. There are three research topics focused, Data Governance, Global Health and Transnational Terrorism, and four dialogues and conferences at Washington (May 2016), Tokyo-Beijing (September 2016), New Delli (January 2017) and Berlin (June 2017) in GGF 2027 Program.


    Professor XUE Lan, Dean of SPPM and Director of CIDEG, addressed a speech at the opening ceremony. He congratulated all the GGF 2027 fellows on their success in going through fierce selection and becoming future leaders of global governance. And then he introduced the development history of SPPM, pointed to the interdisciplinary and corresponsive features between the three research topics and research fields of the school, and hoped them to utilize this opportunity of communication with SPPM faculties and students.

    In the following two-day discussions, GGF fellows in three groups analyzed possible governance situations in 2027 with research methods of futurology. Based on these analyses, a series of research outcomes, including reports, reviews and policy advice, were provided for the promotion of the more effective and reasonable global governance. On the basis of research results at Washington and Tokyo conferences, participants structured the possible situations in the future as well as the causal associations among relevant potential elements and took participation in deep dialogues with experts of Tsinghua, Fudan and Peking University.

    GGF draws on a broad array of dedicated supporters. The program was initiated by the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) and is sponsored by the Robert Bosch Stiftung. The program consortium comprises academic institutions, foundations and thinks tanks from across the five participating countries, including Brookings, Princeton University, Hertie School of Governance, Keio University, The Tokyo Foundation, Ashoka University, Fudan University and Tsinghua University. And as the assistance of the Beijing conference, CIDEG provides full-time technical and academic support.
